Those, who would like to get acquainted with the surrounding area or just feel like driving around, we highly recommend the folowing places:
Pétervására:
This town is the center of the area. You may take a visit to the Keglevich Castle, where the famous knight hall and the chapel (bulit in 1772) can be found. At the highest point of the town there is the `paloc cathedral` with its double spires, which is an imposing sight in every season.
Bükkszék:
The village is famous for its curative Salvus water. There is an open-air thermal bath, water slides and swimming pool, which are very popluar in the neighbourhood.
Sirok:
The symbol of the village is the Sirok Castle. It`s worth climbing up to the castle that remained from the Turkish times, since the view on the surroundings is pricless and wonderful. Besides, those who are intereseted in botanic rarity, we would like to recommend a to visit the Lake Nyirjes Reservation.
Parád, Parádfürdő, Parádsasvár:
Here you can find the famous Carriage Museum, and you may also take a look at the very famous crystal goods that this area is well-known for. Popular places for excursions: waterfall of Ilona-valley and the St. Stephen -csevice fountain.
The Mátra:
The highest hills in Hungary are the Matra Hills. The view from Kekes lookout tower is so wonderful, that it would be a shame to miss out: Lake Sas, the remainings of the castles of South Matra (Markaz Castle, Kisnana Castle) and also Gyongyos, which is situated by the foot of Matra.
Egerszalók:
The 24hour-open hot springs are waiting for its visitors.
Eger:
Eger is the county rank of Heves County, where everyone can find programs and sights according to his/her interest. Just to mention a few sights: Eger Castle, Dobo square, the baroque downtown, the Basilica, which is the second biggest cathedral in Hungary, the Lyceum, Thermal Baths (medicinal, children`s and swimming pools), Turkish Bath, the cellars of the Valley of the Beautiful Woman,...
Szilvásvárad:
The village, which is situated in the North-Western corner of Bukk Hills astonishes the traveller with its compelling natural beauties. By going for a walk in Szalajka Valley we may seek out for the Istallosko Cave and Fatyol Waterfall, and we may also taste the locally breeded trout.
